Majlis Ilmu of Brunei Darussalam Visits BKPBM

Majlis Ilmu of Brunei Darussalam Visits BKPBM

Yogyakarta, MelayuOnline.com - Three delegates of Brunei Darussalam`s Majlis Ilmu once took a visit to Balai Pinang Lima, the office of Balai Kajian dan Pengembangan Budaya Melayu-BKPBM (Center for Research and Development of Malay Culture) on Wednesday (28/1/2009). The three delegates are Dato Ahmad Bukhari Abu Hanifah – the head of Majlis Ilmu and the Administrative Director of State Mufti`s Office, Talip Karim – Secretary of Majlis Ilmu, and Madli Mohd Yusof – Senior Special Duties Officer at the office of Brunei Darussalam`s Prime Minister.

Majlis Ilmu is a committee that is in charge of holding seminar and discussion to commemorate the Hari Keputeraan (anniversary) of Sultan Brunei Darussalam on July 15th, 2009. The year Hari Keputeraan will be themed “Keperkasaan Melayu dan Islam” (The Sovereignty of Malay and Islam). The theme of this year is the continuation from the previous themes, such as “Kedaulatan Raja” (King`s Sovereignty), “Brunei Negara Berdzikir” (Brunei, the Dzikir Country), and “Akidah Kukuh Membawa Berkah” (Strong Belief leads to Blessing).

The visit of Brunei Darussalam`s Majlis Ilmu was aimed at compiling suggestion and advice on the year Hari Keputeraan`s theme. “We are here to receive suggestion on the Sovereignty of Malay and Islam,” Dato Ahmad Bukhari said.

Mahyudin Al Mudra, on responding to the entourage`s goal, said that the biggest obstacle for the Malay culture is how to adjust the Malay culture to the inexorable wave of globalization. “Globalization has come to us, bringing culture and technology from the western. Now is the time for the Malay countries to take the advantages from the technology so that the Malay culture shows its progress in the future,” said Mahyudin, who is also the head of BKPBM.

Based on the insight, BKPBM uses MelayuOnline.com to introduce all the Malay matters to the world. Even more, BKPBM also manages three other websites namely MalayTourism.com, RajaAliHaji.com, and CeritaRakyatNusantara.com. “These are effort to document the past Malay glory, to introduce them to the world, and finally to revive the glory of Malay civilization in the present through the internet. Through the cyberspace, the world finds it easy to discern and learn the Malay culture,” said Mahyudin, who is also the director of MelayuOnline.com.

Dato Ahmad Bukhari and the entourage then came up to conclusion that MelayuOnline.com can be a useful medium to uphold the sovereignty of Malay and Islam through the internet. This is also inline with their mission to take a visit to BKPBM on that day.

Dato Ahmad Bukhari once jokingly mumbled, “I am imagining that MelayuOnline.com is not only owned by Mr Mahyudin. I am eager to see all people share the same feeling that MelayuOnline.com is also theirs.”

It is understandable that the entourage shared such a feeling. It meant that all Malay people do actually want to see the Malay culture exists and is upheld highly by all people in the present.

The small talk between BKPBM and Brunei Darussalam`s Majlis Ilmu ended when the sun was going to set. Brunei Darussalam`s Majlis Ilmu promised to establish cooperative network with BKPBM with hope to see the “sovereignty of Malay” in the present.

At the end of the talk, BKPBM presented souvenirs to the Brunei Darussalam`s Majlis Ilmu and vice versa. On the same occasion, Brunei Darussalam`s Majlis Ilmu gave an invitation to BKPBM to be a speaker on the D-day of Hari Keputeraan. Likewise, BKPBM is suggested to exhibit some works and books on the D-day of Hari Keputeraan.
