Malaysian Dancers Perform In Bali

Malaysian Dancers Perform In Bali

Jembrana, Bali - A group of artists from Malaysia performed in a National Cultural Parade held by Jembrana Regency Government in Bali, yesterday (1/9).

The event was to celebrate the 114th anniversary of Jembrana.

Malaysian artists showed Malay dance with modern music arrangements.

The Jembrana Regent, Gde Winasa, said that the Malaysian group had been scheduled to come to Bali a long time ago to come to Bali.

“This has nothing to do with the controversy regarding the Pendet dance,” he said.

The Malaysian group decided to still come and used the moment to have more communications with the Balinese.

Winasa said he hoped that their presence could increase cultural understanding between Bali and Malaysia and so the Pendet case would not happen again.

In addition to Malaysia, artists from Japan also attended the parade. They all performed in parades between August 31 and September 1.

The parades also included artistic performance from nine regencies in Bali and other regions in Indonesia including East Java, Central Java, West Java, and Southeast Sulawesi.

Indonesian Culture and Tourism Minister, Jero Wacik, said he appreciated the coming of the Malaysian group. “This is how it should be,” he said.

One of the Malaysian dancers, M. Zain, said that he was happy to be able to take part in the event. He said that he himself did not fully understand the Pendet case.

“As we are brothers with Indonesian, we come here to join the celebration,” he said. Rofiqi Hasan
