Artists to Declare Indonesian Culture Day in Bandung
Bandung, West Java -It is reported that a number of artists will declare November 7 as Indonesian Culture Day at the Indonesia Menggugat building in Bandung, as an effort to remind the government about problems related to Indonesian cultures.
“To date, 3,300 supporters have stated their supports on Facebook,” said a member of the event`s committee, Ipong Witono, in Bandung, Monday (25/10).
He said that they would propose that the government name November 7 as Indonesian Culture Day. For the event, the committee has invited the Director General of Culture.
Artists who will come include Putu Wijaya, Eros Jarot, Slamet Raharjo, Dede Yusuf, Iman Soleh, and Godi Suwarna.
November 7 has been chosen as it is birth date of the poet WS Rendra. The idea came when several artists from Bandung and Jakarta gathered after Rendra passing away on August 6.
“Willy (Rendra`s nickname) is an inspiration for many people,” said Ipong.
The draft of declaration mentions the day to appreciate figures of culture and arts, who are still alive or have already passed away. (Anwar Siswadi)
