World Vision to hand over two schools to Aceh

Banda Aceh - World Vision will hand over two primary school buildings and a kinder garten for tsunami victims in Krueng Tunong, Lamno subdistrict, Aceh Jaya district, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) province, a spokesman said.

World Vision spokesman Enda Balina said here Monday, the two school buildings which would be handed over on Tuesday (Nov 13) have enough room for more than 200 students.

"It is expected that more than 200 students will be accepted at the new schools," she said, adding that the handover of the two schools was part of the World Vision reconstruction program to assist tsunami victims in Aceh.

The strong earth quake and ensuing tsunami devastated Aceh on December 26, 2004, and destroyed one primary school, a kinder garten
and killed a number students in the subdistrict.

In addition, the World Vision had also contributed furniture, books, utensils, uniforms and sportsware.

Enda said, the World Vision also conducted teachers training in a bid to improve the learning process in the schools.

The World Vision which has been working in Indonesia since 1960 started its working program in Aceh two days after the tsunami destroyed the province. This institution operates in 100 countries.
