Music
Music is an aesthetic evaluation of thought and sense expressed in auditory communication incorporating instrumental or vocal tones in a structured and continuous manner. It could be said that vocal tone is the very basic unit of musical elements. Harmonious musical sound is the result of the collaboration of three elements: rhythm, melody and harmony. Rhythm is a movement or a variation characterized by the regular recurrence or alternation of different quantities or conditions of sound formed by a series of notes differing in duration and stress. Rhythm gives a specific character in music. The combination between high and low tones creates a unique melodious sound. And a perfect combination between rhythm and melody creates a harmonious sound. Music is considered as the eldest art of human being. It can be said that none of the history of human civilization, including Malay civilization, passed without music. In the Malay society, music, based on the definition above, is classified into vocal, instrument and the combination between vocal and instrument. In the musical combination, musical instrument sound is created for accompanying both vocal and dance. The musical instruments created in the Malay society are: canang (small gong), tetawak (the smallest drum), nobat (big drum), nafiri (long trumpet), kompang, gambus (type of Arab lute or stringed musical instrument with six strings), marwas (type of musical instrument resembling small drum),  bedug (large drum used in a mosque to inform the Muslems about praying time), gong, violin, accordion, drum, tambourine, clarinet, viola, gong, flute, lute and kettledrum.
