Tari Gandrung

Gandrung is one of the dances developed in three regions, Banyuwangi, Bali, and Lombok. Despite of some resemblances, each region has its own characteristics. Gandrung as Lombok people view it, particularly the Sasak, is a dance performed by a female dancer accompanied by gamelan music (or in Sasak term, sabarungan), poetry recital and singing (in Sasak language is called lelakag or sandaran). The performance is staged during a village feast after harvest. Gandrung expresses the gratefulness and hopes of Lombok`s Sasak people. It is their symbolic expression.
