1. The history

Pangean is a historical heritage. It is unknown yet the details of the building process of this mosque. It is not only for religious activities, but also as the cultural center of the local people. Many gatherings and discussion had been held in this place, and for certain occasion people also perform silat (an athletic self defense from Indonesia) in this place, during the Idul Fitri (Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan) for example. The pangean silat (one of kinds of silat) that is accompanied by traditional music usually takes place at the front field of the mosque. People from all of the villages will come to see the performance.

4. Architecture

The architecture of the mosque has some similarities with many old mosques in Sumatra. They all have the dome with more than one story. It is taller than the average mosques at the present day. The location, Koto Tinggi (tinggi means high) shows that the people have well predicted the possibility of the current flood at the area.
