Gumpung Temple

a:3:{s:3:

Gumpung temple was found in Jambi estuary about 43 meters north of Tinggi temple. The temple complex was surrounded by two-layers of fence with overall width 149 x 152 meters.

The structure of temple is reasonably weird and different from other temples found in Jambi estuary. The position of main building is in the west side of the complex. When the temple was first found and excavated, the main building was shattered. What remained was a rectangle pool. There is a main gate looks out on the east for entering the temple. The gate position is in the same direction with the portal temple that located in the east.

Some artifacts such as makara made of sand-stone, statue of sitting-stand Dewi Prajnaparamita (Goddess Pranaparamita) , and various forms of  bricks were found in the ruins of the temple. Based on these bricks, three small stupas were successfully reconstructed

The Dewi Prajnaparamita statue discovery proves that the Gumpung temple was built by Buddhists. It is estimated that the time of construction is in the 11th century.
