Women`s Association Hosts Tadarus

Women`s Association Hosts Tadarus
Brunei - Muara - A Local women‘s association, Persatuan Wanita Kampong Junjungan (Paronita) yesterday held a tadarus ceremony before sungkai (breaking fast).

Held at the house of one of its members, yesterday‘s event was the third in a series of such ceremonies arranged for the 12 associations under the Women‘s Council of Brunei Darussalam for the fasting month of Ramadhan.

Present and joining in the al-Quran recital was Datin Hajah Fatimah Dato Seri Setia Abang Haji Razali, president of the Women‘s Council.

As part of the tadarus ceremony, each association is required to prepare their own pentasmi bacaan - a woman or qariah who is knowledgeable in the tajwid (rules in the pronunciation) of the verses to listen to their reading and correct their errors.

Participants will be assigned three juz (parts) of the al-Quran to read in groups.

During the ceremony they will only be required to read out loud one juz in turn.

This year, the tadarus activity is organised by appointed associations, the Persatuan Siswazah Wanita (Women Graduates Association) and International Women‘s Club.

One committee member from each appointed association is required to attend and oversee each ceremony. In addition, five Muslim members from each of the 12 associations under the Women‘s Council of Brunei Darussalam are invited to participate in the ceremony.

Other associations under the umbrella of the Women‘s Council include the Women‘s Institute (WI), Pertiwi Association, the Welfare Body of the Wives and Families of the Royal Brunei Police Force, Pekerti, the Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam, the Brunei Government Senior Officers Wives Welfare Association (Bistari), and the Brunei Shell Women Association, Bakti, Perbekal and Bakanita. Founded in 1985, the Women‘s Council strives to improve the economic, cultural, and social status of women in the country.
