Favourite destination for tourists

Hyderabad - A Formula One race in the night, a flyer – an iconic architectural marvel of a giant wheel of 43 stories offering a panoramic view through a capsule, integrated resorts, marine parks, new botanical gardens, et al, Singapore is offering these and much more to the discerning traveller this year.

“Singapore offers a lot to tourists. It can be a weekend pleasure trip for the family and friends, an incentive from the company or even a business visit. It is a great place to travel as there is something for everybody. We are also continuously reinventing to provide for new experiences to repeat visitors,” said Kang Siew – Khang, Regional director, South Asia, Middle-East and Africa, Singapore Tourism Board (STB).

“The city-State has become a prime destination for Indians. We are proud of it and do not take it lightly. The cultural affinity between us is another plus point,” she said, at a press conference here on Wednesday. India was the fourth largest tourist inbound market with Hyderabad being the fifth largest market for the tourism industry there.

While a vast majority of visitors from India went for leisure, 30 per cent were business travellers.

The average annual growth in tourists was a healthy 14 per cent and last year it was close to seven lakh visitors. From the city, the tourist visits had shown a growth of more than 18 per cent, she claimed.

The STB also presented Sanjeev Bhandari, a working professional of the city, who had the distinction of being recognised as the 10th millionth visitor to the city-State.
