Youths Told To Be More Confident
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia- Young Malaysians are generally smart but need to be more confident, says Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
The wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said local youths needed to have more faith in their abilities.
“It is useless to have all the qualifications but no confidence in yourself,” she said during the closing ceremony of the first International Early Childhood Education and Care Conference themed “Developing Human Capital Begins With Children” here Thursday.
She said many Malaysian students who studied overseas were brilliant but were afraid to mingle with people from other races and nationalities.
“They usually just mix among themselves. This would not help them gain confidence to interact with others,” Rosmah added.
She said she was amazed to learn about the increasing number of children attempting to commit suicide because of pressure from their parents.
“This shouldn`t be the way. Children must be allowed the freedom to live like children,” she added.
On the national Permata Pintar programme, Rosmah, the project patron, hoped parents would complement the centre`s efforts and participate in its activities.
“We hope they will spend at least an hour a week at our Permata centres to see how their children are doing,” she added.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin officially closed the conference while accompanied by his wife Puan Sri Noraini Abdul Rahman.
