Malay language studies are considered as the old issue. However, the issues offered in the studies are still debatable. Though the topic has long history, the questions on what, where, when, and why about the origin of Malay language are still on the table.

The main issue of the Malay language origin centers on both the homeland and the form of the first Malay language. The homeland regards the place where the Malay language emerged and evolved, while the second question seeks to find an answer on the earliest linguistic form of the Malay language.

Since the opinions and statements on both issues are built on the basis of uncertain hypothesis, both issues are perceived as problematic questions. (SR/bhs/07/07-07)
